DESCRIPTION
The Atlas 8.9 is the top of Focus's carbon gravel range and the model where the frame's adventure features meet a proper race-weight build. The carbon frame carries Focus's Prep Pocket, a sealed compartment in the down tube with a Prep Pack insert for tools and spares, and it is covered in mounting points for racks, bags and bottles. Shifting is wireless SRAM Rival XPLR AXS, a 1x13 setup with a 10-46 cassette that gives you close ratios on the flat and a low enough bottom gear for a loaded climb. Zipp 303 XPLR S carbon wheels and 45mm Schwalbe G-One R Pro tubeless tyres come as standard, and at a claimed 8.7kg it is light enough to make New Zealand's long gravel climbs feel reasonable.

Who Is the Focus Atlas 8.9 For?
This is for the gravel rider who races, or who rides gravel events at race pace and wants the bike to keep up. Carbon wheels and a 1x13 electronic group are the two things that most change how a gravel bike feels under load, and both are standard rather than upgrades. The 45mm tyres are wide enough for genuinely rough surfaces without the drag of a mountain bike tyre.
It also works as a fast bikepacking bike. The full set of mounting points, the Adventure Rack compatibility and the in-frame Prep Pocket mean you can load it for a multi-day trip without strapping things to the frame. For New Zealand's long unsealed back roads, that combination of low weight, wide tyres and real carrying capacity is hard to beat.
