DESCRIPTION
The Talon E+ 2 is Giant's light electric hardtail, built for riders who want assistance without the bulk that usually comes with it. At a claimed 21.7kg in size medium it is noticeably lighter than most e-MTBs, largely because the SyncDrive Sport 2 motor and the removable 430Wh EnergyPak are both compact enough to keep the down tube slim. That slim down tube also leaves room for two bottle cages or a range extender. An SR Suntour XCM32 fork gives 100mm of travel on a 15x110 thru-axle, and Shimano's CUES LinkGlide 10-speed drivetrain is designed specifically to cope with the extra torque an e-bike puts through the chain. It handles New Zealand trails, gravel roads and the commute equally well.

Who Is the Giant Talon E+ 2 For?
This is for the rider who wants one electric bike that does trails, gravel and commuting without feeling like a motorbike. The lower weight makes a real difference when you are lifting it onto a rack, pushing it up a step, or riding it home on an empty battery, and the hardtail layout means less to service than a full-suspension e-MTB.
The RideControl app lets you tune the motor output to stretch the range, which is worth having if your rides mix a hilly commute with weekend trail laps. For a lot of New Zealand riders returning to cycling, or wanting to keep up with faster company, this is the sensible starting point in Giant's electric mountain bike range.
