Giant electrifies new Trance and Intrigue models for 2019

The popular Giant Full-E from 2018 gets an e-bike treatment for the coming season including a new name, the Trance E. LIV have also modified this new design platform offering a women's specific version called the Intrigue E.

Giant has redesigned the geometry to mirror that of the Trance trail bike, with cleaner design integration, and an updated battery and motor.

Giant's own SyncDrive motor is produced by YAHAMA, which has seen updates for 2019. The updated motor gets a 500Wh battery capacity.

Giant is offering 4 models of the new Trance E, and one women's specific LIV version, the Intrigue. This includes a briefer SX 160mm trail machine called the Trance SX E+.

Here's a quick rundown of the new updates for 2019.

  • SyncDrive Pro motors have been refined and updated to a maximum speed of 32km/h for New Zealand.
  • The introduction of the new downtube EnergyPaks offers quicker safer charging with better mounting and weight distribution in the frame.
  • A new RideControl ONE with integrated button controls provides a clean handlebar free of any display.
  • There are 4 new models of the new Trance E, including an SX aggressive version and one LIV Intrigue model.
  • Stock will start arriving in late October, pre-orders are recommended as there will be limited stock for the first shipment.

SyncDrive Pro motors

Giant Trance E SX Motor

The SyncDrive Pro motor gives riders up to 360 percent assistance, and up to 80Nm of torque, which is some of the best torque figures from any e-bike motor on the market.

This assistant (power) is provided to the pedals (through the cranks) up to 120rpm (revolutions per minute) in all of the top three power modes, and up to 110rpm in the bottom two power modes.

With Giant’s PedalPlus 4-sensor technology power from the Pro motor responds in just 190 milliseconds which will avoid any noticeable lag when riding up technical climbs.

Both the clutch mechanism and internal ratchet have been updated for 2019, to help with the reactivity of the motor.

For 2019 the new SyncDrive motor has also been updated to a maximum speed of 32km/h, this will prove popular for those wanting to ride a little more flat terrain.

The motor weight is now just 3.1kg.

EnergyPak battery

Giant Trance E SX Battery

The new battery is far better integrated into the frame, now mounting as low as possible into the underneath of the downtube providing better weight distribution.

The battery has a new two-lock system, making life easier for mounting and dismounting. A new smart charging mode allows you to recharge the battery to 60 per cent capacity in just one hour. Increased space between battery cells also means the battery won't heat up as much.

The range of the new 500Wh battery is up to 150km in 'Eco' mode, the lowest power mode, with the top 'Power' mode at 50km.

RideControl ONE’s Display Button

Giant Trance E SX Control

Giant has moved to a new RideControl ONE unit for 2019, with only a few button controls and indicators, it offers simple control of your motor and battery. If your still a fan of having a display screen, this is still available as an optional extra.

Giant Trance SX E+

The new Trance SX E+ Pro is a 140mm trail or enduro bike, equipped with an aggressive 160mm front suspension fork. The SX model is aimed at more advanced riders and aggressive terrain, with its bigger front fork and 66-degree head angle.

Equipped with Giant's proven Maestro linkage system delivering 140mm of rear wheel travel. The bike is fitted with 27.5in wheels and spec'ed with aggressive 2.6" rubber.

Giant Trance E+

The Trance E+ is an all-round trail bike, built for better climbing and longer days in the mountains.

Using Giant's Maestro linkage system delivering 140mm of rear wheel travel, matched to a 150mm front suspension fork. The Trance will be the better option for most riders, with plenty of all-round capability.

The bike is fitted with 27.5in wheels and spec'ed with aggressive 2.6" rubber.

The new Intrigue E is built with LIV’s 3F design philosophy for a confidence inspiring and manoeuvrable geometry, with suspension tuning for women by women and prototypes tested to dial the final product.

Using a Maestro linkage system delivering 140mm of rear wheel travel, matched to a 150mm front suspension fork. Playful and aggressive geometry boasting a 66.5 degree head angle.

The bike is fitted with 27.5in wheels and spec'ed with aggressive 2.6" rubber.
